Mahogany veneered sideboard with serpentine façade; central drawer with string inlay and convex front above inset cabinet doors with string inlay; concave cabinet doors with string inlay at either side; inlaid fleur-de-lis; six tapered square legs with string inlay. Detail of fleur-de-lis inlay.

Mahogany; pine; poplar.

John Aitken (Aikin) was born in Dulheath, Scotland. He was active as a cabinetmaker in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from ca. 1790 to ca. 1800. He worked in partnership with William Cocks in the early 1790s in the firm Cocks & Co. Aitken made a number of pieces for George Washington in February and March, 1797.
